In the Kentucky hills during the late 1770's, American ingenuity combined native resources: corn, crystal clear limestone-filtered spring water and new, charred oak barrels to create the world's finest "bourbon", distinctive among the world's whiskeys and so valued in the early part of the nineteenth century that it almost replaced hard currency in the country.
